We work: FANTASY ROOM FOR WORKING

  19 February 2013 - 3 March 2013

aiiima showcases at Creative Lounge MOV, at Shibuya Hikarie building
Shibuya 2-21-1 8F (Hachi), Tokyo, Japan
www.shibuyamov.com/aiiima

With Wi-Fi, smartphone and other mobile devices at your fingertips, you can virtually work

anywhere 24/7. And with cloud computing you can share your work and work

together without even being in the same place. But this doesn’t mean that you don’t need an office,

because people still want to meet each other face to face. What will the future of the working

space look like, and what do you need to make it yours? In the exhibition ''Fantasy Room for Working''

at the ''aiiima showcases'' within the flexible workspace Creative Lounge MOV in Tokyo,

Studio Makkink & Bey explores the idea of the Progressive Office (Prooff). And from 18 until 25

February the exhibition will become Jurgen Bey’s actual working space.

We create: Werkstadt Vienna. Design Engaging the City

12 December 2012 – 17 March 2013

MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art
Stubenring 5, Vienna, Austria
www.mak.at

Together with guest curator Sophie Lovell, Studio Makkink & Bey have developed a narrative

cityscape for the exhibition ''Werkstadt Vienna. Engaging the City''. It reveals the diversity and quality

of the outcomes taken from the Passionswege project, which was part of the Vienna Design Week.

The Passionswege project presents the experimental approaches of designers interacting with local

and traditional businesses. ''Werkstadt Vienna'' represents a high street with shop

windows on panels, in this high street however,  the products are experiments and

not to be consumed as an artefact, but as an idea. Catalogue and more information on the

dedicated public program, on the occasion of the exhibition, can be found here.

The presentation was first shown at the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, and is now expanded

with the collectionat the MAK, creating connections between the museum and local Viennese manufacturers.

We exhibit: PROOFF STAND, Living and working in the future

22 December 2012 – 25 May 2014

Centraal Museum
Nicolaaskerkhof 10, Utrecht, The Netherlands
www.centraalmuseum.nl

Studio Makkink&Bey is very happy that the Dutch ''Centraal Museum'' has acquired

the ''Prooff Stand working and living landscape'' and is displaying part of

it in their Expo 3. This interior, designed by Studio Makkink & Bey, envisages the combination of living

, working and recreation in the future. The interior is made up of individual prototypes of furniture

for sitting and sleeping, work islands or desk systems, and vehicles. The wall panels

show how this future vision and work landscape extends beyond the interior,

as envisioned by Studio Makkink & Bey. The items on display include the SlowCar,

the EarChair and the newly designed SideSeat together with several WorkSofa's,

the electric WorkTable and the Social Sculpture.

Isn't it romantic?
Contemporary Design between Poetry and Provocation

14 January 2013 – 21 April 2013
MAKK - Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln
An der Rechtschule, 50667 Köln, Germany
www.museenkoeln.de/museum-fuer-angewandte-kunst/

Until the 21st of April you’ll find the ''Birdwatch Cabinet Girl'' by Studio Makkink & Bey at the

''Isn't it romantic?'' exhibition, which takes place at MAKK in Köln.

The cabinet was created in 2007 and represents a 7 year old girl's sleep maisonette

to enhance her birdwatching research capabilities. The exhibition at the

MAKK sets out to explore ''Romanticism'' by offsetting classical and today's

conceptual works. It also addresses the current understanding of romanticism

and explores the new desire for romanticism. Read more about the exhibition here.

KAMA, Sex and Design
5 December 2012 - 10 March 2013
Triennale Design Museum
Viale Alemagna 6, 20121, Milan, Italy
www.triennaledesignmuseum.it

The ''Kokon Double Chair'' is featured in the ''KAMA, Sex and Design'' exhibition,

which takes place until the 10th of March at Triennale Design Museum in Milan.

The object is a combination of two different chairs which have been wrapped in an elastic fibre.

The material shrinks around the pieces and forms a smooth elastic skin, giving it an entirely new appearance.

The KAMA exhibition investigates the relationship between Eros and design.

And represents a multi-faceted selection of objects, far from the easy stereotypes of pornography,

prudery or scandal. Read more about the exhibition here.

Veneer, forest and animals

Norwegian Forest is a pendant and table lamp series with shade  elements made of a double-layered, natural birch or white ash veneer, depicting a pine forest with animals. The intricate pattern is laser cut by skilled craftsmen in Sweden. When lit, the blonde veneer offers a warm glow, filtering out light between the carved treetops.

Read more about the lamps and the designer here.

Norwegian Forest models

Norwegian Forest consists of three different basic models;

a large pendant lamp,

a small

pendant lamp

 and a table lamp.
