Piet Boon

We are happy to send you our first newsletter. It has been a busy month and we would like to share some highlights of our Journal with you. We hope you enjoy receiving this newsletter.

Now that we have launched our third monograph 'Piet Boon Book 3', our website has been updated with a selection of recent projects that are elaborately featured in the book.

Our work in the last month alone has us travelling from Asia to the United States; you can expect more on our new projects in the Journal soon. Also, we are about to update our website with the latest Collection photography so let's keep in touch!

Piet Boon

Spring is in the air - time for a fresh and bright redecoration of our Piet Boon® Store. We took the opportunity to expand the scope of the Piet Boon® Collection furniture line, including the latest additions like the FEDDE series, in all the new fabrics.

Movable walls have been used by our styling team to break the store apart into various settings, styled with home accessories such as pillows, throws, carpets, art and objects in earthy tones, fresh pastels and bright accents. We would love to welcome you to the world of Piet Boon®.

Piet Boon® Collection is known for its unique fabric collection. True Original fabrics with a solid appearance and a very natural but luxurious look.

This month we expanded our collection with seven new fabric series. Different materials, appearances and prices; yet all in the same beautiful blend of colors, perfectly matching the Piet Boon® style. From an affordable but high-quality brushed cotton to a luxurious classical velour, and a soft but very strong felt to a shiny delicate satin fabric.

All samples of the new fabric line will be sent to selected retailers worldwide this month.
Please drop by at our Piet Boon® Store for an early preview!

We are happy to introduce to you, the latest addition to the Piet Boon Collection: the FEDDE series; consisting of a sofa, loveseat, fauteuil and a pouf.

The compact yet distinguishing shape, not to mention its rather friendly price, make the FEDDE series perfect for Living in Small Spaces. The loose covers also make the series well suited for beach houses; especially in one of our new brushed cotton fabrics.

Ever since they launched their first project ‘Metropolis’, a landscape of tableware, we are a big fan of De Intuïtiefabriek; a collective of four female designers: Amba Molly, Carolina Wilcke, Eefiene Bolhuis and Eva Gevaert.

To them, as it is to us, design is all about craftsmanship; the touch of material and the actual act of making things. It’s their aim to create perfectly crafted products, from which you can feel the love with which they were made. They create a pure, precise and almost fragile feeling, taking the observer into a beautiful new world.

Their latest project, a commissioned piece for Chateau de la Resle in France, concerns a breakfast buffet made of solid oak, coated steel, porcelain and glass.

See their website for more information.

Luminosity for Milan Design Week

02 April, 2012

Milan 2012 sees the launch of  ‘Luminosity’ a showcase of new lamps, lights and shades presented in a series of illuminated environments, at MOST, a festival of design, innovation and culture to be held at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.

Luminosity is an exploration of light. On a mission to illuminate and furnish the future, we aim to de-mystify preconceptions of artificial light and to educate people on the future of lighting. Using the latest technologies and materials, drawn from the worlds of engineering, mathematics and nature, our new products shed as much light on the mechanisms and effects of luminous objects as on the design aesthetic itself.

New Products Include:

FIN LIGHT is an ode to engineering. Proudly exposing its inner workings, Fin is built of components usually totally hidden from view, including a heat sink, a giant acrylic lens and 6 LEDs.

ETCH WEB is a vast 65cm wide shade with an unusual open structure, designed to cast atmospheric angular shadows when lit. Inspired by mathematics an irregular pentagon shape is repeated across the body to create a total sphere.

The digitally manufactured, ETCH SHADE and ETCH CANDLEHOLDER are now available in two new colours, copper and stainless steel creating a trio of finishes in the Etch family.

Tom Dixon takes over 4 spaces at MOST. The Via Olona entrance is dominated by Luminosity which leads visitors through 4 interconnected tunnels of light. Dezeen studio set up a live broadcast centre. Industrial manufacturing live on-site with international machine giant, Trumpf, making and giving away steel chairs and lamps and the Carpigiani Gelato University run gelato-making classes teaching visitors how to make their own flavor. Spring Table is a pop-up restaurant from Dock Kitchen’s, Stevie Parle, igniting the Italian tradition of coming together to share food, set in the monastic heart of MOST.

De Vorm: Have you booked your hotel already?

01 April, 2012

Have you booked your hotel already?

On Tuesday the 17th of April, the 51st Salone del Mobile opens its doors for the international design world!
Until the 22nd of April, Milan is going to shine under the banner of leading, contemporary design. After a successful year at Ventura Lambrate, De Vorm takes the plunge over to Zona Tortona, where we are going to exhibit in the spaces of via Novi 5.

At Zona Tortona 2012, we proudly want to provide you with functional structures, surprising details and the distinctive De Vorm mix of tradition and innovation. Traditionally, we are giving Milan our novelties! This year, we are excited to announce the launch of designsby Sebastian Herkner (among others the Arnhem sofa), Ionna Vautrin, Steffen Kehrle, Floris Schoonderbeek and Laurens van Wieringen.
Additionally, we are looking forward to show the Pod, the Clip chair and the Clamp-a-Leg in a new light; away from their shy beginners attitude and on to self-confident maturity.

De Vorm wins the Red Dot Design Award

When De Vorm launches a new product, we are absolutely convinced of its quality and added value. That’s why we can tell you most confidently all about our products. We do know though, that it’s not so much about our own perception but about the world’s opinion. By winning the Red Dot Design Award, the most prestigious international design award, we were shown that the Pod is indeed highly convincing - worldwide. We are incredibly proud that our design and the collaboration with Benjamin Hubert was ultimately crowned.

Naturally, we are presenting the Pod in Milan. You are most welcome to visit us in Zona Tortona to clink glasses to the Pod’s success as well as to see our latest launches.

See you soon in Milan,
Jeroen ter Hoeven
